California case won by David Engel, a gay man, who challenged discrimination by a publisher

Photographers. His attorneys Gloria Allred and John West, represented him.

a press conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred, prior to the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.
In March 2022, Andrea Quiroga announced that she was filing and did file, with the assistance of
her attorney, an allegation of discrimination with the California Department of Fair Employment
and Housing (now called the California Civil Rights Department) claiming that the Miss Universe
rule discriminated against her because she had given birth to her son. Therefore, she was not
eligible to enter the Miss California USA pageant which is a pre-requisite to competing in the
Miss Universe pageant. Her goal was to get the discriminatory rule eliminated. In August 2022,
the Miss Universe Organization announced that they were eliminating that rule which excluded
women who were pregnant or who were parents, but they failed to state the reason that they had
changed the rule. Andrea and Ms. Allred announced details of the agreement that was reached with
the Miss Universe Organization, the California Civil Rights Department, and Andrea. After the
press conference, Andrea, her son, and Ms. Allred walked the red carpet at the Miss California
USA pageant, and Andrea also was allowed to walk the runway with her son in the Miss California

01.22.23 – Today, on the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade,
attorney Gloria Allred held a virtual press conference. In 1973, it was very important to women
and girls that the U.S. Supreme Court decided that states could no longer criminalize abortion,
because women had a constitutional right of liberty and privacy rooted in the U.S. Constitution.
Many celebrated that landmark decision, which now has been reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court’s
decision in June 2022 called Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. That recent decision
has now forced women and girls to return to pre-Roe v. Wade days where we had to fight state by
state for the right to have legal, safe, affordable and available abortions. On this important
anniversary, Gloria Allred will be marching and speaking in Long Beach, California, and urging
women to continue to fight for our rights. Joining Ms. Allred at the press conference and at the

years, four months in state prison as well as lifetime 290 registration as a sex offender. ” The

08.26.22 – The Truth about Women’s Equality Day

Happy Women’s Equality Day! Today celebrates the addition of the 19th Amendment to the United
States Constitution, suffrage for women. It is often said that in August 1920, women were
“given” or “granted” the right to vote in the United States. Nothing could be further from the
truth. Suffragists first advocated for women to be afforded the right to vote at a women’s
rights meeting in 1848. From that point until 1920, they marched for it, lobbied for it, raised
money to support their cause, spoke out anywhere and everywhere in support of it, organized and
fought for it, until they won it. It is an insult to their persistence, to their courage, and
the many sacrifices they made, to assert that they were given or granted the right to vote.
Always remember that women fought for it, and they won it, and herstory was made when suffrage
for women was added to the U.S. Constitution in 1920. Always honor their hard won victory by
voting in every election for candidates who are pro-choice, and who support equal rights for
women.
